Why oh why did god create girls..?
Recently one of my friends told me that reading my blog he
feels like I am a budding feminist.. And I thought am I really one? I think so,
I might be becoming a feminist. But who is to be blamed here..i think living in
a society like ours would make any girl believe in feminism. I mean, looking at
it, I cant even find one area where theres’nt a differential behaviour to male
and female.
This starts right from the time of birth right? The cry of a
son of adam is greeted with a smile whereas the cry of a daughter of eve is
greeted with tears(in most cases). Why does it have to be like that. Again this
differential attitude continues throughout childhood. Its heartbreaking to know
that even today there are places (and many of them) where girl children are
still fighting for education!
This is the story of a girl who was unfortunately born into
a family that longed for a boy.
Why!
Oh! Why!
Meera was born on the 12th of June..It was by midnight
that she decided to come out her lil paradise to the outside world.. She came
out with a cry..but wait !why did she see unhappy faces aroud her too… She was
expecting a much happier welcome after all! Here everyone had sad faces.. :( including
her mom! And her dad was sitting at the corner.. was it sadness that she saw in
his face..or was it anger!
Years passed by. Meera was 2 yrs now, and one fine day her
sister Gita was born.. Again she saw
Gita too was received by an unpleasant crowd. She was once again
bewildered by this.. It was after the birth of her second sister named Nila
that she understood the reason for her parent’s sadness. They were just waiting
for a baby boy! A boy who can look after
the family, who would be a support to the family!
And finally when Meera was 7 years old their family was “blessed”
with a boy child. Her parents were so happy and proud of their child and he was
named Karthik! At first Meera looked
after him like a Barbie doll.. But never did she know then, that this little
doll of hers would turn out to her arch enemy later on!! It all began when
Meera started noticing something strange in her parents attitude. There were
several instances where she could sense lil
Karthy receiving an unwanted attention from her parents... one day she noticed
him getting extra pocket money from their father, then another day a new toy..
and yet another day she saw something extra in his plate.. ‘Was it really a
chicken piece ??!’. Yet Meera never reacted to all this until the day came when
she and her sisters were asked to drop out of their schools so that Karthik
could get special tutionsand coaching for games! This Meera could not bear, and
that day she had her first fight with her parents about Karthik.
Dayz went by and with each passing day she became more and more sad. She wondered
why should live like this. She longed to be like Karthik. She shouted at god
for making her a ‘she’ and not a ‘he’! One night after another long fight with
her father she decided it was time she did something, something huge that would
change the society………….
to be continued....
